About the course

About the ACT course at Clever Academy

Like the SAT, the ACT is a standardised test that U.S. universities use to compare applicants, and colleges that consider test scores accept either one - so you can choose the test that suits you better, and some students prepare for both (see SAT vs ACT).

Since 2025 the ACT is shorter: English, Math and Reading make up the Composite score, while Science and Writing are optional. Many students sit their first ACT in grade 11, which leaves time for a retake in grade 12 if needed.

The course suits students from grade 10 planning to study in the U.S., and students who are strong in maths and science and want a STEM score.

How much does the ACT course cost?

How do I know if ACT suits my current level?

What is the ACT test format?

Format: Computer, at a test centre (outside the U.S.) · Duration: 2 hours 5 minutes (+ optional Science, Writing) · Sections: English · Math · Reading (+ optional Science). Full details are on our ACT test information page.

What changed in the new ACT?

It is shorter, with fewer questions: English 50 questions in 35 minutes, Math 45 in 50 minutes (4 answer choices), Reading 36 in 40 minutes. Science (40 questions, 40 minutes) is now optional and no longer part of the Composite; taking it adds a Science score and a STEM score. Writing (40 minutes) stays optional.

Do I have to take ACT Science?

No. The Composite comes from English, Math and Reading. Check what your target universities and majors ask for - science and engineering applicants often take Science to report a STEM score.

Is the ACT on paper or on computer in Vietnam?

Outside the U.S., including Vietnam, the ACT is taken on computer at test centres. Registration and dates are on act.org.

Should I self-study on Vietdemy or learn with a teacher?

If you are disciplined and your English is around B1–B2 or above, the Vietdemy ACT course (lessons, 478 questions with explanations, 2 full practice tests, an 8- or 12-week plan) is a lower-cost way to prepare. If you need someone to diagnose your gaps and keep you on track, choose 1-on-1 or a small group with a Clever Academy teacher.

Can I prepare for the ACT online?

Yes, two ways: self-study with the ACT course on Vietdemy, Clever Academy's online learning platform, or 1-on-1 lessons online with a Clever Academy teacher.

How do I pay, and can I reserve a seat first?
